Report: Rams told NFL they wouldn’t mind playing Packers in London

One of the toughest games on the Rams’ grueling 2022 schedule is a road trip against the Packers. We don’t yet know when that game will be played, and we also don’t know for sure where it will be played, either.

That’s because the Packers are slated to host a home game in London, and because the Rams are scheduled to face them on the road, they’re a candidate to be Green Bay’s opponent.

According to Peter King, the Rams have told the NFL they wouldn’t mind facing the Packers in London if the league is planning to schedule that game at Lambeau Field late in the season.

The London games will be hosted by Green Bay and New Orleans at Tottenham Stadium, and by Jacksonville at Wembley Stadium. These games will be played in close proximity, likely between Weeks 5 and 8, on Sundays. Crazy to think about this, but I hear the Rams have told the league they wouldn’t mind being the Packers’ foe in London … if the league planned to put the Rams in Lambeau Field late in the season. Might make sense, to both neutralize the Pack’s home-field edge and to neutralize possible foul weather.

From the Rams’ perspective, this makes a ton of sense. They would much rather face the Packers on a neutral field at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium rather than potentially playing them in November or December at a frigid Lambeau Field that’s absolutely certain to be packed with fans wearing green and yellow.

Whether the NFL will grant the Rams’ wish remains to be seen, but facing the Packers in London instead of Green Bay would benefit the Rams. And on the flip side, the Packers would probably rather face a lesser opponent in London and save their home-field advantage at Lambeau for a team like the Rams or Cowboys.

The full 2022 schedule will be released on May 12, but the international games will be revealed this week on May 4, so we’ll know soon whether the Rams are going to face the Packers at Lambeau or in London.
