Report: Patriots made trade call on Commanders’ star pass-rusher

The New England Patriots have reportedly made a call to the Washington Commanders, inquiring on the asking price in a potential trade for former Pro Bowl defensive end Chase Young.

The Athletic’s Jeff Howe reported the news on Tuesday.

That would be a blockbuster move for a team many pegged as sellers ahead of the trade deadline.

Going after Young, who is playing on an expiring contract, would mean the Patriots are confident in locking him up long-term. The No. 2 overall pick of the 2020 NFL draft is a fearsome pass-rusher with the sort of off-the-charts traits to dominate a game at the line of scrimmage.

He hasn’t exactly lived up to his draft stock, but he could prosper in the Patriots’ defense under coach Bill Belichick.

If anything, this is a reminder that the Patriots could be buyers by the 4 p.m. ET deadline. As of right now, everything is on the table.
