Report: Lions to bring back RB Justin Jackson

The Detroit Lions are set to add a familiar face to the running back competition in training camp. Justin Jackson is coming back with the Lions. Aaron Wilson was the first to report the pending move. A source familiar with Jackson confirmed the report.

The 27-year-old Jackson played the 2022 season in Detroit after several seasons with the Chargers. He served as the No. 3 RB on offense most of the season, gaining 170 yards on 42 carries and also catching 12 passes for 101 yards.

Jackson has been an unrestricted free agent following the expiration of his one-year deal with Detroit.

Jackson’s bigger value to the Lions last season was on special teams. The veteran was Detroit’s primary kick returner, averaging 26.7 yards per return on 23 attempts. Jackson played over 250 special teams snaps. Given the hits the coverage units have taken this offseason, this could very well be where Jackson brings the most value in rejoining the Lions.
