This is a really tough break for Kendre Miller. NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill reports that the Saints’ rookie running back is undergoing imaging after suffering an ankle sprain against the Chicago Bears on Sunday; the results of that imaging will determine the severity of his injury and how much time he’ll have to miss on the mend.
Injuries have been a problem for Miller throughout his rookie year. He had to sit out most of the offseason program recovering from a knee injury suffered in his final college game at TCU, and a hamstring issue cost him the start of the regular season. Now a sprained ankle is sidelining him at midseason.
If there’s a silver lining here, it’s that the Saints’ bye week is coming up after their next game with the Minnesota Vikings. Hopefully Miller won’t miss much time, but the timing of that bye week does help soften the blow from any absence. The Saints have leaned hard on veterans Alvin Kamara and Jamaal Williams in recent weeks; if Miller does miss time, they can bring up Jordan Mims from the practice squad or look into adding a free agent.
