Report: Giants to re-sign LB Tae Crowder to practice squad

The New York Giants waived linebacker Tae Crowder on Tuesday, two weeks after he tweeted, “free me.” He later apologized to his teammates and coaches for the tweet.

“I think that it was one of those things where it just didn’t work out with the expectation of execution and things just kept building up and building up. And you want to give a guy time to correct it, and we just didn’t have the time for him to correct it,” defensive coordinator Wink Martindale said of Crowder.

Crowder cleared waivers without a claim on Wednesday, making him an unrestricted free agent. And it didn’t take him long to find a home — a familiar one at that.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that Crowder will re-sign with the Giants, joining their practice squad.

It is expected that the Giants will sign safety Landon Collins from the reserve unit to their active roster, effectively swapping the two. Collins had paired with fellow safety Tony Jefferson to handle inside linebacker duties against the Washington Commanders in Week 15.

It’s a bit of a fall for the former Mr. Irrelevant, but perhaps some time on the practice squad will allow for the opportunity to correct his execution issues.
