Report: Colts, QB Gardner Minshew Agree to Contract Terms

The Colts have agreed to terms with quarterback Gardner Minshew, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, giving the franchise an experienced signal-caller in the room for the 2023 season.

Pelissero reports that Minshew is expected to sign a one-year, $3.5 million deal with Indianapolis. The 26-year-old likely will slot in as the team’s backup with the Colts expected to select a quarterback with the No. 4 pick in next month’s NFL draft.

Minshew will follow former Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen, the Colts’ new head coach, from Philadelphia to Indianapolis after the quarterback spent two years as the backup to Jalen Hurts. In a reserve role, Minshew played in nine games and made four starts, throwing for 1,102 yards, seven touchdowns and four interceptions across two seasons with the Eagles.

A 2019 sixth-round pick out of Washington State, Minshew began his pro career with the Jaguars and made 20 starts for the AFC South franchise in his first two years in the league. He threw for 5,530 yards with 37 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, while posting a 7–13 record but was traded to Philadelphia ahead of the 2021 campaign.

The Colts are hoping to overhaul their quarterback room after a disappointing 2022 season and already released Matt Ryan earlier in the week. Indianapolis went 4-12-1 last year under coaches Frank Reich and Jeff Saturday and appears headed for a rebuild.
