Report: Colts had formal meeting with Georgia CB Kelee Ringo

The Indianapolis Colts reportedly held a formal meeting with Georgia cornerback Kelee Ringo ahead of the 2023 NFL draft, according to Ryan Fowler of The Draft Network.

The cornerback position is going to be a relatively high need for the Colt this offseason even if it isn’t a priority. Ringo is considered one of the top cornerbacks in what appears to be a strong class.

Being a popular prospect, the Colts were on the long list of formal meetings with Ringo.

Ringo will be an intriguing prospect for the Colts considering his size and athleticism. He measured in at 6-foot-1 and 207 pounds while posting a 4.36 in the 40-yard dash.

He doesn’t quite meet the arm length threshold that Chris Ballard typically looks at with cornerback positions, but the Colts may be intrigued enough to look past that.

Here’s what Lance Zierlein of NFL.com said about Ringo in his scouting report:

Boundary corner with an impressive blend of size and athleticism. Ringo is uniquely suited to travel the field and match talents against some of the bigger targets in the league. He can press and does a nice job of controlling plays in front of him from off coverages. However, he is very average at anticipating breaks and transitioning with them to squeeze the top of the route. His physicality in coverage and in run support are big assets in his favor, but there is still work to be done in consistency of coverage. Ringo’s traits will be highly coveted and he has a chance to become a very good NFL cornerback if his route recognition continues to develop.

As it currently stands, the Colts will see the return of Stephon Gilmore, Kenny Moore II and Isaiah Rodgers at the cornerback position. However, there’s a decent chance Moore is traded this offseason as a salary-cap move while Gilmore is going into the final year of his contract.

We’ll see if Ringo impresses the Colts enough to hear his name called on Day 2 of the draft so this will be one to monitor.
