Report: Celtics won’t trade Jaylen Brown, plan to re-sign Grant WIlliams

New reporting from the Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach sheds light on recent offseason rumbling regarding the Boston Celtics.

Per Himmelsbach, “the Celtics have been exploring trades that would reduce some of the congestion in their talented backcourt and bolster their depth at the wing or big positions.”

They will not, however, deal All-NBA forward Jaylen Brown according to the Globe reporter. Their vision requires the retention of top talent, meaning Brown remains essential.

Himmelsbach also reports “financial obligations will not guide the roster decisions.”

The Globe also reports Grant Williams likely “be back in Boston” next season even though the Celtics “have received inquiries from teams about sign-and-trade possibilities” regarding the former Tennessee standout.

Himmelsbach’s source stressed they would likely match any offers unless the team and Williams decided parting ways was best for both sides.

Another player potentially on the move is Payton Pritchard. Per the Globe reporter: “the Celtics remain high on Pritchard, and there is no tension between him and the organization.”
