Report: Cavaliers, Kevin Love to Agree to Contract Buyout

Hours after the team’s 118–112 loss to the 76ers on Wednesday, the Cavaliers were finalizing a contract buyout with veteran forward Kevin Love, according to The Athletic‘s Shams Charania and Jason Lloyd. The move would make the 34-year-old a free agent.

Once complete, the Heat, who sit at seventh in the Eastern Conference at 32–27, are expected to be a key suitor for Love.

Love last appeared in a game on Jan. 24, and has since missed 12 straight contests. On the season, he’s averaging 8.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in 20.0 minutes per game across 41 games.

Love has spent nine of his 15 NBA seasons with the Cavaliers, earning two All-Star selections in Cleveland. He was a key part of the franchise’s 2016 championship team. Love battled a thumb injury earlier this year, and has fallen out of the rotation, prompting a desire to seek more minutes for another team.
