Report: Bengals Planning to Sign Former XFL Quarterback in Wake of Joe Burrow Injury

With Joe Burrow set to miss extended time with a calf injury, the Bengals are reportedly closing in on signing another quarterback to fill in as the team moves forward in training camp.

Cincinnati plans to sign free-agent QB Reid Sinnett after bringing him in for a workout earlier in the day, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Saturday. The move is expected to be made official on Sunday, per Rapoport.

Sinnett, an undrafted prospect in 2020, will head to the Bengals following a brief stint with the XFL’s San Antonio Brahmas. The 26-year-old has previously worked out for several NFL teams, and most recently, spent time on the Eagles and Dolphins’ practice squads during the ’22 season.

After signing with San Antonio in November 2022, Sinnett went on to start one game, finishing with 97 passing yards and a touchdown, before suffering a season-ending foot injury in March.

While the extent of Sinnett’s role remains to be seen, his arrival gives the Bengals extra insurance behind backups Trevor Siemian and Jake Browning. The club is expected to be without Burrow for several weeks due to a right calf strain he sustained on Thursday, though the star signal-caller is currently expected to be back in time for Week 1.
