Report: Bears WR Chase Claypool could be ‘shipped out’ if poor effort continues

Bears wide receiver Chase Claypool has been a focal point this week after his lackluster performance against the Packers in the season opener.

Claypool, who was targeted twice and had zero catches, looked like he didn’t want to be on the field. His effort was lacking, especially in blocking situations, to the point where head coach Matt Eberflus pulled him aside the day after the game.

While there was speculation about whether Claypool would be active for the Week 2 game against the Buccaneers, Claypool is active. But that doesn’t mean he’s safe moving forward.

According to FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer, Claypool is “on notice” after last week’s performance. If the Bears don’t see improvement from him, Claypool could be a healthy scratch or be “shipped out.”

Glazer also said that Claypool apologized to the players, coaches and front office after his poor outing in the season opener.

Bears receiver DJ Moore recently sounded off on Claypool’s poor performance against the Packers, where he made it clear it was dealt with during the game.

“We actually addressed it with him on the sideline,” Moore told The Athletic. “Chase knew what was happening wasn’t good enough to help us win but at the same time, we didn’t want to beat down a dead horse…He will be ready to go and ready for his assignments.”

We’ll see if Claypool can bounce back against the Bucs.
