Reo Hatate Celtic success touted for Japan call-up as boss makes 'standard bearer' claim

Reo Hatate's sizzling form at Celtic could be about to earn him a call-up for the Japan national team.

The midfielder, despite being in top form under Ange Postecoglou's high-flying side, has made just one appearance for his country and was disappointed to learn of his World Cup fate last year when only Parkhead mate Daizen Maeda was picked for the Qatar tournament. Top forward Kyogo Furuhashi was also left out much to the surprise of many around the national side.

Hatate, however, has shown his skills in particular this season in Glasgow, earning plaudits from pundits and fans alike. And boss Hajime Moriyasu reportedly is ready to give a Hoops player a shout. The likes of new arrivals Yuki Kobayashi and Tomoki Iwata are also available for selection and have made an appearance in front of the Parkhead crowd already.

The unknown player is not named in Sponichi's report, but a 'Celtic standard bearer' is being touted for friendlies next month against Uruguay and Colombia as part of a 23-man squad. Hatate could feature on March 24 against Uruguay and then a game against Colombia on the 28th comes next.

Kyogo's electric form might also turn heads for the national side as he has hit 20 plus goals this season in green and white.
