The Irish rental market has reached new levels of ‘insanity’ as one studio apartment in Dublin went on the market with a bed in the kitchen.
The cramped room located on the South Circular Road in Dublin 8 was advertised to rent for €1,795 per month.
An image on rental website Daft.ie shows the single bed about a metre away from the cooker and sink, leaving little room to move around.
Twitter user Sian Conway posted a screenshot of the advert her page, referencing Dolly Parton’s famous hit 9 to 5, joking: “this is what dolly meant when she said tumble outta bed and stumble to the kitchen.”
Other Twitter users were shocked at the rental price and layout of the studio, with one person calling it “f***ing insanity”.
A second person wrote: “Ironic that the website is daft.ie, because that's what you'd have to be to rent that.”
Even more people questioned the safety of the studio with the bed so close to the kitchen.
One person wrote: “I presume that's a large ironing board and not a Bed”.
Another joked: “You'd have to assume having an oven that close to your bed would eliminate the need for an electric blanket....and also reduce the cost of being cremated…”
However, some joked about the plus side of sleeping within touching distance of the toaster, writing: “Ah...breakfast in bed…”
While another wrote: “Great for people that hate to get out of bed, everything is in easy reach of it”.
