The Frew were in action in the Strathclyde Demolition Cup as they beat West Park United 2-1 on the day to go into the hat for the next round.

Gaffer Quigley was complimentary about his side's start to the season and says that putting together a strong cup run in the demolition cup is important this season and is taking it seriously.

Renfrew started the game off the strongest as they created chances throughout the first half before Frew attacker, Scott Morton, lobbed the keeper to give the away side an early lead.

However, Renfrew wouldn’t have it all their own way as West Park United, a team in the fourth division, pulled one back to stun Renfrew.

It was a battle to see who could grab a winner before penalties ensued and it was Renfrew who continued their impressive start as they scored in the second half through Dominic Innes to secure their place into the next round.

Quigley paid tribute to the team's strong mindset and determination to get through the game.

He said: “We started slowly in the game I felt and didn’t get on the ball as much with West Park pressuring us and they gave us a good game.

“They made it difficult for us at times and it was a battle, something that you have got to prepare for in cup games but that is what I am proud of the boys for doing. Digging in and getting through, that is what matters most in cup games.

“We usually change the team to give people a run-out and the boys that came in today really showed that they can be trusted and be vital for the squad in future games.

“Now it is onto next week for us to continue building on our season.”

Renfrew now look towards a tough game away to Maryhill as they look to make it ten wins in all competitions this season.
