JAIPUR: The wait to relish mangoes in the sweltering heat will soon be over as all the mangoes varieties would be available in Jaipur from May 15. Till now, three varieties of mangoes have arrived in the local market while the rest including Kesar from Gujarat and Dasheri will arrive in good numbers from May 15. With a good crop of some mango varieties including Safeda, Hafoos also known as Alphonso and Kesar, mango lovers will get them at worthy prices.
Traders at Muhana Mandi on Sunday stated that Safeda which is from Andhra Pradesh is coming in abundance due to which it is priced at Rs 50-60 per kg in the wholesale and in retail at Rs 80-100 per kg.
“We have started getting Safeda, Hafoos and Totapuri which are coming in good quantities. From May 5, Kesar mango will start coming from Gujarat. Likewise, the mangoes from Uttar Pradesh including Dasheri and Langda will start arriving soon," Mahesh Harsadani, a wholesale dealer of mangoes and other fruits, told TOI on Sunday.
Talking about the prices, Harsadani said, “The prices of Safeda and Hafoos have not changed much in the wholesale. However, the retail customers who get less quantity are getting them a little expensive.”
Traders stated that Kesar will bring good business as it is being supplied in abundance. “For the past six years there has been a good demand for Kesar and Alphonso. Since we have growing demand for Kesar, we are also ordering them directly from the farms of Gujarat,” said Abdul Sagir, a wholesale dealer of mangoes at Hasanpura, a wholesale fruit market.
Traders also stated that they are also expecting good price and quantity of Dasheri mangoes from Uttar Pradesh. “Since in the month of April there were lesser dust storms in northern India including Uttar Pradesh it appears that there would be bumper crops of mangoes from Uttar Pradesh. It appears that Dasheri would be available for Rs 60-70 per kg in retail,” said Ramesh Sonthiya, a wholesale dealer of mangoes at Sodala Mandi.
