Reiss Nelson posts two-word cryptic message ahead of Arsenal vs Leicester amid injury concerns

Arsenal star Reiss Nelson has fans speculating if he is injured ahead of the game against Leicester after he posted on his Instagram story.

The Gunners started their Premier League 2022/23 campaign with an impressive 2-0 win away against Crystal Palace, with Gabriel Martinelli opening the scoring before Marc Guehi's own goal sealed all three points for Mikel Arteta's side. Nelson featured in Mikel Arteta's 18-man squad for the game against Palace, but remained on the substitutes' bench for the duration of the game, despite the Spaniard now being able to make five changes.

Arsenal are thought to be interested in signing a new winger before the transfer window closes, with Yeremy Pino and Cody Gakpo both strongly linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium this summer. Nelson faces plenty of competition for places to start in Arteta's team after returning from his loan spell with Feyenoord, but could now have suffered a setback in his attempts to force his way into the manager's plans for the Gunners' upcoming fixtures.

Nelson posted two pictures of himself being involved in first team training ahead of the clash against Leicester, with the message 'back soon' added onto the post. The cryptic post has led many fans to believe the 22-year-old is now set for a period on the sidelines after struggling with injuries throughout his career.

Nelson's potential injury concern could see the return of Emile Smith Rowe to Arsenal's matchday squad after the Hale End graduate continues his recovery from an injury suffered earlier this summer. Smith Rowe struggled for minutes during pre-season but is now close to a return to action after stepping up his recovery in recent weeks.

Fabio Vieira is another of those who struggled with injuries during pre-season that could feature in Arteta's squad for the first time this season after being pictured taking part in first team training. The competition for places in attack gives the Gunners' boss plenty of options to select from ahead of the game against Leicester, but Arteta has admitted he wants more signings to join the club before the transfer deadline.

Vieira and Smith Rowe's return will see the likes of Martinelli, Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka challenged for a starting spot, whilst Nicolas Pepe's future remains uncertain heading into the final weeks of the transfer window. Nelson's cryptic message could also hint at another potential loan deal, after the 22-year-old scored four goals and provided a further seven assists in 33 appearances for Eredivisie side Feyenoord last term.
