ATLANTA – Dr. Heval Kelli moved to metro Atlanta in 2001 as a Syrian refugee. After washing dishes early on to help support his family – the victims of violence and persecution in their homeland – he became a physician.
The Morehouse and Emory-trained cardiologist says part of the credit for his rise goes to former President Jimmy Carter.
“President Carter, his actions before I was born changed the trajectory of all refugees in this country.”
