Reform UK’s new immigration plan ‘not serious or workable’, experts say

  • Reform UK's proposal to review and deport hundreds of thousands of asylum seekers who arrived by small boat or overstayed visas has been criticised by experts.
  • The party claims this mass deportation plan would save £137 billion overall, including £14.3 billion over the next five years.
  • Jonathan Portes, an economics professor, and the Refugee Council have dismissed Reform's financial projections as 'not remotely credible' and 'not a serious or workable plan'.
  • The Refugee Council warned that reassessing asylum decisions would overwhelm the system, tie up courts, and cost taxpayers tens of billions.
  • Separately, Reform leader Nigel Farage defended deputy leader Richard Tice against accusations of failing to pay nearly £100,000 in corporation tax, while Labour called for Tice to pay what he owes.
