Rece Davis releases college football rankings after Week 10

ESPN’s “College GameDay” analyst Rece Davis released his top 10 rankings after Week 10 of the college season. Davis has a vote for the Associated Press and agreed with the media consensus for his top team this week. He ranked the Oregon Ducks No. 1.

The Georgia Bulldogs, fresh off an unimpressive 34-20 win over Florida, see themselves fall to No. 3 in Davis’ rankings. Of course, Georgia’s the highest ranked team in the SEC because of their 30-15 win over Texas, but as time goes on, that benefit of the doubt could fade away.

If Georgia keeps looking suspect against non-SEC contenders like Florida, Kentucky and Mississippi State, it could negatively impact their ranking moving forward. Next week, UGA will be tested against Ole Miss, who was just outside of the top 10 of Rece Davis’ rankings at No. 14.

Of course, the biggest game was the Ohio State-Penn State in a Big Ten rivalry game. Undefeated Penn State was looking to win against the Buckeyes for the first time in a few years, but their offense couldn’t break through Ohio State (as usual). The Nittany Lions even had several chances to score from inside the five-yard line of Ohio State, but the Buckeyes buckled up, stopping Penn State both times and winning 20-13

A few new teams join Davis’s rankings. Undefeated Indiana joins the list at No. 10, continuing to look impressive with the highest point differential in the Big Ten. Notre Dame, meanwhile, may simply be the beneficiary of circumstance. They were on bye this past week, but both Clemson and Iowa State were upset this past week which allowed the Fighting Irish to sneak their way in.

Week 11 will feature some great SEC bouts. As mentioned above, Georgia will square off against Ole Miss, but a bigger one for SEC and ranking purposes will be Alabama going against LSU. These teams have had up-and-down seasons up to this point. Alabama was the No. 1 team after beating Georgia before falling on their face against Vandy.

LSU looked like they could be a shoe in for the SEC in the College Football Playoff before falling apart against Texas A&M. This matchup will be one of desperation to try to claim a spot in the SEC championship.
