Twenty-seven people in 12 states have been sickened by Salmonella linked to raw oysters harvested from Virginia's Little Wicomico River, the CDC said on Oct. 19. Five people have been hospitalized, and no deaths have been reported.
The oysters were harvested from Sept. 18 through Oct. 8 by the Little Wicomico Oyster Company, which voluntarily recalled them on Oct. 9. The FDA said the whole, in-shell oysters carry harvester certification number VA-1421-SP and went to restaurants and retailers in 15 states and Washington, D.C.
