Real Madrid are reportedly pursuing Newcastle's Bruno Guimaraes as a replacement for Manchester United target Casemiro.
The Manchester Evening News understands talks between United and Real Madrid for Casemiro are progressing, with the Reds more hopeful of landing the Brazilian than Frenkie de Jong. The club are facing a race against time to bring in a defensive midfielder with deadline day less than two weeks away.
Casemiro - who has three years left on his contract - is said to be unsettled by Aurelien Tchouameni’s summer arrival. A move to Old Trafford would see the 30-year-old reunite with former Real teammates Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Sport claim Madrid are eying Guimaraes as a potential replacement. However, a deal for the 24-year-old is thought to be difficult, with the midfielder a main fixture of Eddie Howe's Newcastle set-up.
Meanwhile, The Times claim United could make a shock approach for veteran goalkeeper Asmir Begovic. The 35-year-old Everton shot-stopper only played seven times for the Toffees last season following his switch from Bournemouth.
United are in need of a back-up to David de Gea with Tom Heaton the next in line following Dean Henderson’s loan move to Nottingham Forest.
