The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Jennifer Shah has revealed that she was hospitalised after trying to take her own life.
Jen said she locked herself in a bathroom as her terrified husband broke down the door before rushing her to hospital, where she spent the next two days.
The 49-year-old reality star shared the heartbreaking news with her co-stars Lisa Barlow and Heather Gay in Tuesday night’s episode, when they were on a road trip to San Diego.
At the time, Lisa, 48 and Heather, 40, grilled Jen about her ‘toxic behaviour’ before she opened up about her mental health struggles.
As the trio sat having an alfresco lunch, a heated conversation began and Jen disclosed: “Let me finish. I almost committed suicide. I tried to, okay?”
She added: “Because your friend is heartless and decided to drag me and my entire family.”
Back in March 2021, Jen was charged with conspiracy to commit money laundering and fraud and underwent a court case, where she was trolled by an Instagram account @shahxposed.
The reality star was referring to Heather’s friend Angie Harrington and her husband, Chris, who ran the ‘fake’ social media account.
The mother-of-two went on to discuss more details about the difficult time, that saw her mental health spiral and her attempt to take her own life.
Reflecting on leaving her own family behind, Jen said of her two children and husband: “Omar and Sharrieff weren't gonna have a mom. Sharrieff wasn't going to have a wife.”
In the heart-felt admission, Jen explained to the camera: “I have always felt like I'm a pretty strong person. But when I found out about @shahxposed, it came on a day when there was just a lot of negativity dealing with the trial, and I got to the point that day where I was done.”
Jen revealed that her husband, a football coach, had to take her to hospital, as he was terrified by the traumatic event.
“I locked myself in the bathroom, and Coach was so scared, he had to kick the door down because he didn't know what I was gonna do. And Coach had to take me to the hospital. I was there for two and a half days.”
Back in the conversation with her friends, Jen continued: “You guys have no f***ing idea. You have no idea. The bullying is not okay.”
Heather replied: “I don't think it's okay, and I love you, and I have been ride-or-die for you.”
Heather went on to say that Jen also needed to address the toxic elements of their relationship, and an overwhelmed Jen left.
Lisa added with a bizarre childhood reference: “The conversation's over. I mean, the bottom line is Jen just dropped something so heavy, Bob The Builder couldn't even move it.”
However, when Jen had left, her friends agreed that they would try to help Jen and support her, but also help her acknowledge the more ‘toxic’ behaviours she displayed.
