Ravens Sign Pass Rusher Jadeveon Clowney to One-Year Deal

The Ravens are making a late addition to their defense as they signed defensive lineman Jadeveon Clowney on Friday. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the contract is for one-year and worth up to $6 million.

Clowney, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, played the first five years of his career with the Texans, making three Pro Bowl and totaling 29 sacks. Since 2019 he has bounced around the league, spending a year with the Seahawks, a year with the Titans and the last two seasons with the Browns.

Following a nine-sack campaign in 2021, Clowney struggled last year with just 28 tackles and two sacks for Cleveland. In three of the past four seasons, Clowney had just five sacks combined compared to his nine sacks alone in 2021.

The 30-year-old Clowney joins a Ravens pass rush that is deep and includes Odafe Oweh, Tyus Bowser and David Ojabo. The veteran instantly becomes the oldest player in that room, as Baltimore has stocked a young core of pass rushers.

Clowney believes that he will fit in well with the physical style of play in Baltimore.

“From old coaches that coached me to the players I talked to when I came for a visit, it felt like an easy transition for me to fit in,” Clowney said.
