The NFL has seen a business boom over the last few years, especially regarding the monetary side of the game. The salary cap has gone up every year that it can, TV deals are being signed left and right, and the sport is still prevalent within households nationwide.
The league recently expanded to a 17-game schedule but might be looking to add one more game to its slate. Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh weighed in on the idea, and while he didn’t get into specifics, he said it’s good to see the NFL and NFLPA working together to try to agree on what’s best for all parties.
“Right. It’s not something in training camp, as a coach, that you give much thought to right now because we’re immersed in our team. But I think it’s good to see the NFL and the NFLPA work together on these things. You like to see everybody come together for what’s best for all parties, including the fans. The fans are kind of the main driver of all of it. We’ll see where it goes, but we’re focused on what we’re doing.”
It’s unclear when the NFL would expand to 18 games, but the idea is gaining momentum the more it is discussed. The league would bring in incredible additional revenue due to the change, and teams would have to adjust accordingly.
