The Baltimore Ravens have seen the ongoing contract situation with quarterback Lamar Jackson become one of the bigger storylines in the NFL this offseason. The fifth-year player hasn’t signed an extension with the team yet, and all indications point to him potentially waiting until after the 2022 season to engage in discussions surrounding a new deal.
Following a great 2022 draft for Baltimore, Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta was asked about Jackson and his contract situation during a press conference with the media. He didn’t have much of an update, saying that “nothing has really changed”, but expressed excitement about the quarterback and the year that the team could have on offense in 2022.
“Yes, nothing has really changed on that front. I’m really excited, because … We’re excited about Lamar [Jackson]. He’s been working quite a bit out in California [and] down in Florida. We are getting great reports. We talk to him all the time. We check in with him all the time. We talk to other players. I believe – and I think coach [John Harbaugh] feels this way – that we are poised to have a great year on offense.”
Jackson is entering the final year of his contract and is set to play on a fifth-year option in 2022. The quarterback has shown his worth to the organization on multiple occasions, so to many it seems like it’s only a matter of time before both sides agree on an extension of some sort. However, until a contract is finalized it will be a guessing game as to when and if a deal will be agreed to.
