KOLKATA: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday arrested West Bengal Minister Jyotipriyo Mallick in connection with a money laundering case related to an alleged multi-crore ration distribution scam in the state.
This action was taken under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act after more than 17-18 hours of questioning. Mallick, who is a diabetic patient with various ailments, was apprehended at his residence in the Salt Lake area on the outskirts of Kolkata and brought to the ED's office at 3:30 am.
Following his arrest, he was taken to an ESI hospital in Joka for medical tests due to his health condition. After the medical checkup, he was taken to the Bankshall Court, where the ED planned to seek his custody for further questioning.
