Rasmus Hojlund suggests he's not ready to play 90 minutes after Manchester United injury

Rasmus Hojlund has admitted he isn’t ready to play 90 minutes ahead of Denmark’s crunch Nations League clash with Spain.

Hojlund has only recently returned to action for Manchester United from a hamstring injury which sidelined him for the first few weeks of the season.

And while the 21-year-old feels in good shape now he has advised Denmark caretaker coach Lars Knudsen not to play him for the full match against Spain on Saturday.

“There is no point in rushing things and risking another injury,” Hojlund said.

“My body feels good again. I might be ready to play 90 minutes, but if I also use my brain a little bit, I don’t think 90 minutes on Saturday against Spain is a good idea.”

Hojlund has made five appearances for United since returning from injury and started their last two games, but has yet to feature for more than 70 minutes in one match.

Denmark fared well without the former Atalanta striker in the last international break, beating both Switzerland and Serbia 2-0.

But the Hojlund they have welcomed back for their trips to Spain and Switzerland is a leaner version than his team-mates might remember.

“I’ve lost a little weight, but it doesn’t matter,” he said. “I know there are some benefits to being a little lighter and some benefits to being a little heavier.

“I’m not focused on the scales. I’ve gotten used to the fact that my weight fluctuates a little bit.”
