Rape case: Body of stillborn baby exhumed for DNA samples in Madhya Pradesh's Khandwa

INDORE: Mandhata police in Khandwa district has exhumed body of a boy born in a still delivery out of a rape from a minor mother for collecting DNA samples for trial in the case.

In April, the girl had gone missing from her house. She was later found with the accused, who married her. Medical examination of both the accused and the minor girl was perfomed only to find that the girl was pregnant, police said.

In August, the accused was sent to jail and a chargesheet was filed. Also, a notice was served to the girl and her family members to inform police about the delivery as and when it happens.

On November 26, the girl delivered a stillborn baby at her married sister’s house. As the baby was stillborn, the girl and her sister buried it in a graveyard behind Kanadia police station. The girl was eight month pregnant when the delivery happened, police said.

Recently, police received a court order for DNA testing of the baby. So, they enquired about the baby only to learn that it was stillborn. So, they sought court’s permission for exhumation of the body for DNA samples. The permission was granted and the body was exhumed around two days ago, police said.

Mandhata police station in-charge Baljeet Singh Vishen told TOI, “The DNA samples from exhumed body of baby was collected. It will be sent for testing to a forensic laboratory for matching it with samples of the accused.”
