A ransomware attack has targeted the central data systems of Paris' Grand Palais and other museums in the Réunion des Musées Nationaux network, as confirmed by the Paris prosecutor’s office on Tuesday. The attack, which was discovered on Sunday, impacted data systems utilized by approximately 40 museums throughout France.
Despite the breach, Paris authorities have assured the public that there has been no disruption to the ongoing Olympic events. The Grand Palais, one of the affected venues, is currently hosting fencing and taekwondo competitions, while the Château de Versailles, also part of the RMN network, is serving as the venue for equestrian sports and the modern pentathlon.
In response to the incident, the Paris prosecutor’s office has initiated an investigation, assigning the task to the Brigade for Combating Cybercrime. The primary objective of the investigation is to ascertain the full extent of the attack and identify the perpetrators responsible for the breach. Authorities are actively working to secure and restore the affected systems to ensure the smooth operation of the museums and related Olympic events.
