Ranking all the uniforms at the 2023 Women’s World Cup, starting with Jamaica’s Wales Bonner collab

The 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand will feature some of the most talented players in the world representing their nations.

While the play on the field is exciting, so too are the jerseys that each player will wear for their country. Sometimes an extension of the flag and national identity, it’s fascinating to see how each design manifests for each team.

The criteria was mostly vibes-based but it has to include a holistic grade for both the home uniform and the road uniform. So if one is good and one is not so good, the arbitrary score we have for each design was dropped.

We felt that it was important to share the mission statement behind each design, so we’ve also included some of the details shared by each apparel brand to help provide more context for each jersey.

Hyperlinks are provided as available to learn more about each.

Note: We have seen a home jersey for Switzerland and a home jersey for Morocco (both Puma brands) but no away uniforms unveiled yet. We will add both nations to these rankings once we have seen their road uniforms.

Otherwise, these are our full rankings of the best jerseys at the 2023 World Cup.

1
Jamaica

Adidas

After switching over from Puma and then Umbro, this stunning Adidas collaboration with Grace Wales Bonner for the Reggae Girlz became an instant favorite the moment I saw it. Specifically, the away uniform (influenced by the 1980s Jamaican dancehall music scene) would look the best as a casual outfit off the field.

WHAT TO KNOW:

“Inspired by Jamaican style and culture, the range sports a mixture of classic adidas silhouettes and elegant Wales Bonner signatures – offering a collection fit for the pitch, alongside casual staples to be sported off it.”

MORE DETAILS:

Adidas

HOME: “The energy of the island is accentuated by fine pinstripe details that decorate the shirt, echoing the subtle groove of Jamaican music and style.”

AWAY: “Crafted to represent the collective memories of proud Jamaicans, the away jersey celebrates a commitment to fine craftsmanship, with its premium collar and cuffs in the signature Wales Bonner crochet texture.”

2
Nigeria

Nike

Nike always does a fantastic job with the uniforms for the Super Falcons and this effort is no exception. The decision to move toward a lighter green was wise but the textile-inspired road jersey is the real standout.

WHAT TO KNOW:

“The Nigeria National Team Collection draws from the distinctiveness of the country’s local prints and patterns. These traditional designs are blended with current styles from the fashion scene of the capital city of Abuja. In an electric green color scheme, the home kits features a bespoke pattern on the cuffs and sock ribbing inspired by traditional Nigerian artwork and textiles. The forest green away kits combines modern shapes with traditional prints; the up-close details on the graphic pattern pay homage to the team’s Super Falcons name.”

MORE DETAILS:

Nike

HOME: “A team that creates their own future, needs a jersey just as unique. To celebrate the Super Falcons, we’ve stepped away from the traditional dark green, employing an energetic new color scheme that will have all eyes on Nigeria. A stair-inspired graphic on the sleeve celebrates the team’s rise while hidden details feature their nickname.”

AWAY: “Inspired by Adire textiles, the Nigeria 2023 Away jersey puts a modern spin on traditional design elements.”

3
Japan

Adidas

This is a fairly similar look to previous efforts for Nadeshiko Japan. But it still maintains a really wonderful vibe and colorway inspired by Mount Fuji.

WHAT TO KNOW:

“[This] kit takes its pink color cues from the beautiful pink sunrise that can be witnessed at Mount Fuji. The sunrise represents the collective mission of the Japanese team – as the Women’s World Cup emerges on the horizon – to add another winner’s star to the team badge.”

MORE DETAILS:

Adidas

HOME: “Created for self-expression on football’s biggest stage. The origami crow-inspired design on this adidas jersey helps it stand out from the crowd.”

AWAY: “A symbol of hope. The eye-catching design on this adidas Japan away jersey captures the color-shifting vibrancy of the rising sun.”

4
France

Nike

This is perhaps the cleanest look of any team competing in the tournament. Although it isn’t as daring as other decisions, the subtle patterns provide an interesting pop for Les Bleues.

WHAT TO KNOW:

“Evoking the country’s rich history of women’s football, France’s National Team Collection is inspired by Orphism, an art movement popularized in the 1920s, when the first French women’s football teams were taking the field. The home kit features light blue and lilac hues, resembling the kits of those 1920s teams. The white away kit features a bespoke, hand-painted pattern cut into hexagon shapes, reminiscent of Orphism art.”

MORE DETAILS:

Nike

HOME: “It only takes a glance to know who this kit belongs to. The iconic powder blue color celebrates the early pioneers of women’s soccer in France. A tricolor pattern on the sleeves and scripted logo hidden on the inside infuses the FFF 2023 Home jersey with national DNA.”

AWAY: “Of the many things to love about France, 2 take center stage in the design for the FFF 2023 Away jersey: great art and even better soccer. An allover print inspired by abstract brush strokes pairs with a tricolor paint splatter on the sleeves to infuse this classic white kit with national DNA.”

5
Argentina

Adidas

While the home jerseys are unimpeachable, it was interesting to see La Albiceleste try something a little different on the road. The pattern may remind me a bit of a disposable Dart / Solo cup, but it works.

WHAT TO KNOW:

“Striking landscapes from Serranía de Hornocal in the north to Ushuaia in the south, the Argentina away kit signifies the diverse natural landscapes found across the country.”

MORE DETAILS:

Adidas

HOME: “Throughout football history, those three blue stripes have stood for mesmerizing footwork and unrivaled commitment. For Argentina’s latest home jersey, adidas returned to that winning look. […] That champions badge and extra star over the crest confirm a memorable victory.”

AWAY: “From its sun-soaked north to its ice-cold south, Argentina is a nation flowing with natural beauty. Reflecting the country’s wide array of rugged landscapes and vibrant vistas, the colors on this adidas away jersey ensure it catches the eye when you’re supporting your team.”

6
Australia

Nike

These are both really nice looks for The Matildas, showcasing a really eye-catching pattern for the home uniform and a beautiful shade of turquoise for the road.

WHAT TO KNOW:

“Australia’s National Team Collection celebrates its diverse country and community and is an invitation to all Australians to join in and embrace this once-in-a-lifetime moment and iconic team. The typography for both kits is a new and custom look, reflecting a modern twist on their traditional numbers. The home kit features a created-by-hand acrylic pour and marbling pattern, illustrating Australia’s diverse country and culture as well as the transformation and dedication of the national team over time. The turquoise away kit looks to the future and represents a nation that is vibrant, energetic, and forward-thinking.”

MORE DETAILS:

Nike

HOME: “How do you design a jersey for a country unlike any other? You zero in on its uniqueness. An all over marbled pattern draws on the golden wattle to give the Australia 2023 Home jersey a one-of-a-kind look that celebrates Australia’s diverse communities and bright footballing future.”

AWAY: “A vibrant and energetic design that’s almost as beautiful as the country itself? Yep, we did that. A trio of rich colors helps the Australia 2023 Away jersey celebrate the country’s natural wonders.”

7
New Zealand

Nike

I am a huge fan of the simplicity here for the Football Ferns, who benefited from a fun spray paint technique to make the home jersey come to life while also resembling the All Blacks rugby squad.

WHAT TO KNOW:

“The New Zealand National Team Collection showcases the country’s unique and iconic culture and landscapes. The home kit pays homage to its landscapes through a new look for a much-loved pattern that captures a longtime symbol of New Zealand’s national identity — the Silver Fern. To create the distinct allover pattern, Nike designers used black and silver spray paint techniques. The away kit, which features a bright futuristic blue, is inspired by the 1991 qualifying squad, a memory made even more special as the country co-hosts the game’s biggest stage for the first time.”

MORE DETAILS:

Nike

HOME: “To build on longstanding tradition, our designers drew inspiration from the silver fern—long a symbol of strength, power and national identity—when designing the New Zealand 2023 Home jersey. An allover silver fern print is given a spray-paint aesthetic to showcase the beauty of this iconic emblem.”

AWAY: “To build on long-standing tradition, our designers drew inspiration from the silver fern—long a symbol of strength, power and national identity—when designing the New Zealand 2023 Away jersey. You’ll find a fern print on the sleeves while colored accents throughout nod to the natural beauty of the country’s blue wonders.”

8
Portugal

Nike

I like the classic home jersey for A Selecção das Quinas, and although I have mixed feelings about the pattern on the away jersey, it might look really nice on the field.

WHAT TO KNOW:

“The Portugal National Team Collection nods to modern art and fashion as well as the country’s maritime roots and traditional craftsmanship to proudly represent Portuguese heritage. The red home kit, drawn from the country’s flag, is deeply rooted in national pride. The away kit features a vibrant color scheme and bespoke pattern inspired by the country’s famous calçada Portuguesa designs.”

MORE DETAILS:

Nike

HOME: “Inspired by the intersection where history and modern culture collide, the Portugal 2023 Home jersey takes a traditional colorway and infuses it with youthful energy.”

AWAY: “When designing the Portugal 2023 Away jersey, we wanted to celebrate soccer as an art form. After all, there’s a reason it’s called the beautiful game. An allover print pulls inspiration from street art and the national flag to turn this jersey into a work of art.”

9
Spain

Adidas

It’s easy to love the home uniforms for La Roja, but the away jerseys may take some more time for some fans to get used to out there. It’s a nice nod to the coral reefs but it also looks like a Rorschach test stain from some spilled sangria.

WHAT TO KNOW:

“The Spanish away jersey takes inspiration from the beautiful coral reefs that can be found around Spain’s vast coastlines – a feature the country shares with the famous coral reefs found in the tournament’s host nations of Australia and New Zealand.”

MORE DETAILS:

Adidas

HOME: “A nation united. Constructed from Spain’s unique soccer DNA, this timeless home jersey is dominated by the team’s famous red colors. On the chest, woven versions of Spain’s updated team badge and adidas’ 3 Bar Logo stand proud.”

AWAY: “A colorful call to preserve our blue planet. Inspired by the coral reefs common to both Southern Europe and Australasia, the intricate graphics on this adidas Spain away jersey bring the plight of the oceans to football’s world stage.”

10
Norway

Nike

The Grasshoppers went for a simple look for both their home uniform and their away uniform and frankly, it’s hard to blame them for it. When you’re playing on the biggest stage, there are some bonus points awarded for not screwing up the look by trying to get too fancy.

WHAT TO KNOW:

“The Norway National Team Collection features bold color-blocking combinations, allowing the team to mix and match the colors of its national flag in a prominent way. Both kits are accented by the Norwegian Football Federation crest.”

MORE DETAILS:

Nike

HOME: “The Norway 2023 Home jersey uses iconic colors from the flag as inspiration for its design. It’s mostly red with blue along the side panels and national accent colors on the sleeves and neckline. Hidden on the inside is Sterkere Sammen, which translates to Stronger Together.”

AWAY: “The Norway 2023 Away shirt uses iconic colors from the flag as inspiration for its design. It’s mostly white with blue along the side panels and national accent colors on the sleeves and neckline.”

11
Brazil

Nike

We already know the yellow home jerseys are iconic but the blue road uniforms managed something a little more experimental for The Canaries. The leaf pattern on the shoulders and sleeves works well on this lovely shade of blue.

WHAT TO KNOW:

“Inspired by the Amazon, the Brazil National Team Collection weaves together a distinct look through a tropical foliage pattern. The yellow home kit highlights the beautiful Amazon ecosystem through the pattern’s knit textures. The blue away kit plays into the landscape’s deep, bright jungle colors. The away kit carries through a variation of the tropical foliage pattern, this time appearing on the sleeves.”

MORE DETAILS:

Nike

HOME: “Rooted in tradition (nothing says Brazil quite like yellow and green), the Brazil 2023 Home jersey draws on the country’s natural beauty to create something wholly distinct. An allover bespoke fern pattern represents the uniqueness of the team and its players.”

AWAY: “Inspired by Brazil’s rich biodiversity, we paired a rich blue with a vibrant green to create the Brazil 2023 Away jersey. A leaf pattern over the shoulders and sleeves nods to the Amazon rainforest.”

12
Haiti

Saeta

Arguably the best jerseys that were not designed by either Nike or Adidas, these jerseys for Les Grenadières from Saeta are a really solid first effort as the Haitian women make their FIFA Women’s World Cup tournament debut.

WHAT TO KNOW (via Sportslogos.net):

Saeta

“Ahead of their first-ever trip to a Women’s World Cup this summer, Haiti has rolled out new kits for both its men’s and women’s national teams. The Fédération Haïtienne de Football (FHF) and manufacturer Saeta, a sportswear company based in Colombia, launched the new kits on Friday, May 12. [These] kits feature a tonal design inspired by Our Lady of the Assumption Cathedral in Les Cayes, Haiti. It consists of stylized fleurs-de-lis, small dots and the word “HAITI” spelled out in a diamond shape.”

13
Rep. of Ireland

Castore

Ireland recently became the first international soccer team to sign with the emerging UK sportswear brand Casatore, who also recently inked deals with Aston Villa as well as Newcastle United and Sevilla.

WHAT TO KNOW (via Sports Pro Media):

“Castore replaces Umbro as the kit supplier of Ireland’s national soccer teams. Despite four years still remaining on the six-year contract that was due to expire in 2026, the FAI cancelled the Umbro deal last October amid unpaid debts of the company’s supplier JACC Sports, which totalled more than €13 million (US$13.9 million).”

14
Netherlands

Nike

These aren’t bad, but the orange for the Oranje Leeuwinnen looks a bit too peachy for my taste. Meanwhile, is it just me, or is the road uniform giving shades of “the dress” that some people saw as black and blue in 2015?

WHAT TO KNOW:

“The Netherlands National Team Collection is grounded in two identities: the red, blue and white colors of the country’s flag, and the bright orange that is their iconic national color. The orange home kit includes a two-color contrast rooted in Dutch football culture. The away kit spotlights the colors of the flag, sporting blue as their primary color. Nike designers took the lioness, the Dutch women’s national team crest, and combined its shape with geometric modern patterns. “

MORE DETAILS:

Nike

HOME: “Few can pull off orange better than the Dutch. Originally a symbol of the royal family, this bright and lively color has since become a sign of soccer excellence. We’re continuing that legacy for the Netherlands 2023 Home jersey, drawing on previous uniforms to root the team to their own history of prowess.”

AWAY: “The Netherlands 2023 Away jersey is undeniably Dutch. It uses the team’s lioness crest (a symbol of their power, strength and ability on the field) and shades of blue to create a modern allover print inspired by the country’s iconic tin-glazed earthenware.”

15
China

Nike

This is a pretty traditional look for The Steel Roses, though it’s worth noting that the subtle pattern on the home jerseys is really striking.

WHAT TO KNOW:

“China’s National Team Collection shines a spotlight on China’s traditional colors of red and yellow, a combination deeply rooted in China’s identity and culture. The home kit is inspired by the iconic xiangyun symbol, a traditional Chinese stylized cloud associated with good luck and good fortune. The away kit features a bright yellow hue, the second of their traditional colors.”

Nike

16
United States

Nike

I think the road uniforms are legitimately good but the home uniforms are a swing and a miss for Team USA. I think it is safe to say that the paint splatter is not really working for the USWNT. We could have done so much better for this wonderful team, Nike.

WHAT TO KNOW:

“The USA National Team Collection is inspired by the art movement of abstract expressionism, which started in the 1940s in New York City as the art epicenter began to shift from Europe to the U.S. — similar to what the USA team has done for women’s football. The home kit is print-based and marks only the second time in the past 11 years that the team has worn a print at home. Done in the action-painting method of abstract expressionism, the home kit features a distinct drip-paint technique pattern, highlighting the energy of the women’s national team — though different, they are united. The blue away kit includes sleeve cuffs that feature a bespoke stars and stripes graphic print. The neckline of the top also features red blades formed to look like the tips of stars.”

MORE DETAILS:

Nike

HOME: “Like a piece of abstract art, the design of the USWNT 2023 Home jersey is more than meets the eye. Its paint-splatter graphic allows each jersey pattern to be unique, celebrating the individuals who, together, create order among the chaos of the game. Gold accents throughout pair with hidden details to commemorate the team’s unrivaled 4 world championships.”

AWAY: “The USWNT 2023 Away jersey is all about the stars and stripes. A red, white and blue colorway adds a touch of national DNA while details at the collar and sleeves pull inspiration from the points of a star to add bold style. Stars over the team crest pair with a hidden graphic on the inside commemorate the team’s unrivaled 4 world championships.”

17
South Africa

Le Coq Sportif

Le Coq Sportif did a pretty nice job with these jerseys for Banyana Banyana, especially considering that it was designed by a self-taught artist from South Africa.

WHAT TO KNOW (via Sportslogos.net):

“The team — nicknamed “Banyana Banyana” (“The Girls”) — launched the new kits made by Le Coq Sportif on social media channels on Thursday and Friday. Le Coq Sportif and the South African Football Association (SAFA) solicited designs from the public for all three kits, and put them to a vote in late 2022. The winning designs were submitted by Lwazi Cedrick Ngcungama, but tweaked to conform to FIFA rules before being released.”

MORE DETAILS:

Le Coq Sportif

18
Zambia

KoPa

These are especially cool because they come directly from the Football Association of Zambia. It’s great to see The Copper Queens going with an independent route in their FIFA Women’s World Cup debut.

WHAT TO KNOW (via Sportslogos.net):

“The kits are manufactured by KoPa, the in-house brand that is wholly owned by the FAZ. KoPa was established in 2018 after the FAZ cancelled a contract with Singapore-based manufacturer Mafro Sports for failing to meet its contractual obligations.”

19
Germamy

Adidas

It feels like Adidas tried to do a little bit too much for Die Nationalelf. Neither feels identifiably German, although the woodlands-inspired away uniform is sort of nice.

WHAT TO KNOW:

“[Germany’s] jersey is inspired by the various deep green woodland areas found within the country – from the Black Forest to the Zauberwald. The various shades of green and bespoke handmade graphic celebrate Germany’s vast woodlands – which cover an area equivalent to one third of the country’s land mass.”

MORE DETAILS:

Adidas

HOME: “A look to set pulses racing. Placed over the heart and detailed in gold, a woven team badge takes center stage on this adidas Germany soccer jersey. A change of direction for modern home shirts, that bold vertical stripe is filled with national team DNA.”

AWAY: “Germany’s majestic forests are celebrated in the eye-catching design on this away jersey.”

20
Canada

Nike

Canada’s jerseys are OK but nothing remarkable. Specifically, the geometric patterns for the home jerseys are interesting and could like nice on the field with the maple leaf. But the road uniforms are fairly boring.

WHAT TO KNOW:

“The Canada National Team Collection focuses on the country’s traditional red and white. The red and black home kit features a bold evolution of their iconic geometric maple leaf design, while the away kit highlights their traditional red and white look.”

Nike

MORE DETAILS:

HOME: “Can you call it a Canadian jersey without the maple leaf? We didn’t think so. A digitally inspired mosaic print uses this iconic symbol to add modern energy to the Canada 2023 Home jersey.”

AWAY: “While the Canada 2023 Away jersey may look simple at first glance, you’ll want to give this kit another look. Using a cross-dye technique, we combined white and platinum fibers to create a subtle allover pattern that adds extra depth and dimension to this classic jersey.”

21
Korea Republic

Nike

Nike’s jerseys for the Taegeuk Ladies are totally passable but not much to write home about, either. I would have liked to have seen something more like this pre-match shirt. The good news is that the pink side stripes are very cool.

WHAT TO KNOW:

“The Korea National Team Collection is inspired by the country’s youth culture and globally renowned fashion style. The red home kit juxtaposes Korea’s traditional colors with a vibrant new pink. Funky blocking on the side panels creates a distinctive look reflecting the youthful spirit of the country and the team. The white away kit features color blocking inspired by the Korean fashion scene. The split side panels point to traditional ideas of balance and opposites on the Korean flag.”

MORE DETAILS:

Nike

22
Italy

Adidas

I don’t know what is going on with these marble-inspired designs, but this is a confusing decision from Adidas after Italy switched over from Puma.

DETAILS

HOME: “Italy to the core. The precious foundation upon which Italian culture is built, marble plays a central role in the design of this eye-catching football jersey. Alongside gold details and an Italia back-neck signoff, dark veins stand out over those famous Azzurri colors.”

AWAY: “A monument to finely crafted football. This Italy away jersey owes its eye-catching look to a rock that has permeated the region’s culture for millennia. Complete with its Italia back-neck signoff, the marble-inspired design commemorates a brand-new partnership between Italy and adidas.”

23
England

Nike

England wore Umbro for decades but recently made the switch to Nike. Unfortunately for The Lionesses, these are some of the most forgettable uniforms in the tournament and there isn’t much left to say otherwise.

WHAT TO KNOW:

“The England National Team Collection is inspired by the Art Deco movement and design of the legendary Wembley Stadium, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. The home kit features an off-white color scheme modeled after the original Wembley’s chalky white brick exterior in 1923. The colors also pay homage to the 1984 England women’s team, the country’s first women’s team assembled for a major tournament. The away kit brings in the first expression of blue in the team’s history. The pattern of the top is a geometric form also nodding to the Art Deco movement.”

MORE DETAILS:

HOME: “With a white and blue colorway, the England 2023 Home jersey nods to the national team’s impassioned attempt to capture a championship in ’84. A graffiti-inspired accent on the sleeves pairs with a deconstructed England graphic hidden inside gives this throwback design a modern feel.”

AWAY: “Bold geometry drives the design of the England 2023 Away jersey, which uses 2 shades of blue to create an allover print full of depth and dimension. A deconstructed England graphic hidden on the inside further adds to jersey’s modern look.”

24
Denmark

Hummel

While the idea is strong and pop art is fun, I feel that Hummel may have leaned a bit too much on an influence from comic books for their Danish jerseys.

WHAT TO KNOW:

“The jersey is unlike any other national team jerseys we have seen before. Together with DBU, we have created a design that pays tribute to the women players as superheroes, and we have taken inspiration from a wild pop art style to create something truly eye-catching. We believe that this jersey emphasizes just how cool the Danish women are, and we can’t wait to see them wearing the jersey on the pitch.”

MORE DETAILS:

Hummel

25
Philippines

Adidas

These jerseys for the Filipinas looked a bit rushed for Adidas after a late deal was signed by the Philippine Football Federation. They aren’t nearly as fun as the JerseyBird uniforms worn by the men’s squad.

26
Costa Rica

Adidas

Costa Rica recently made the switch from New Balance to Adidas, but this debut is rather bland and basic for Las Ticas. The crest is nice but there isn’t much left to think about.

27
Panama

Reebok

Although they only had a contract for one team in the World Cup, this was still a middling effort from Reebok to represent Las Canaleras. It’s just an ordinary look for Panama as they make their FIFA Women’s World Cup debut.

28
Sweden

Adidas

These look a bit like someone tried to design jerseys in the FIFA video game but got bored halfway through. The blotchiness of the road uniforms doesn’t look very nice and the home jerseys feel like the crest is placed in the wrong spot.

WHAT TO KNOW:

“Sweden’s away jersey is inspired by the vast glacial rivers and ice caps that can be found across the country. Combining a changing glacial blue graphic, with trims and details in the iconic yellow color synonymous with the nation – the design seeks to highlight the beauty and importance of the nation’s glaciers.”

MORE DETAILS:

Adidas

HOME: “If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it. This adidas football jersey takes design cues from the 1994 kit and updates it with a modern spin. […] The woven crest on the chest and “Sverige” signoff on the back collar pay homage to the third-place Sweden team that left it all on the pitch.”

AWAY: “Inspired by the majesty of Sweden’s sparkling glaciers, this adidas away jersey fires a warning to the world that the time to act on climate change is now.”

29
Colombia

Adidas

I have to salute Adidas for trying something crazy for Las Chicas Superpoderosas. While it looks more like something a goalkeeper should wear than the whole team, it’s at least memorable. So why did they go so down the middle for the home jersey? Go big for both!

WHAT TO KNOW:

“The Colombian away kit pays homage to the many hues of the Caño Cristales River – often referred to as the ‘River of Five Colors’ – celebrating the unique changing phenomenon that occurs due to the reflection of light against the water. Utilizing traditional federation colors, re-imagined through the lens of flowing water and the reflection of light, the design brings in a fresh look that celebrates the country’s rich biodiversity.”

MORE DETAILS:

Adidas

HOME: “Part of a kit that shows off the colors of Colombia’s national flag, this adidas football jersey keeps things simple. Dominated by the team’s familiar home color, it also flashes their eye-catching away-jersey graphic on the sides.”

AWAY: “The natural world never ceases to inspire. Reflecting the kaleidoscopic colors of the Caño Cristales, the graphics on this adidas Colombia football jersey remind us that such beautiful sights need preserving.”

Grand Sport

I like that Grand Sport tried something different for The Golden Girls, but the collars on these aren’t working for me whatsoever.
