BENGALURU: It was easy pickings for Karnataka batters, who dominated the second day of their Ranji Trophy quarterfinals against Uttarakhand at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Wednesday. The home team stretched their lead to 358 runs as centurion Shreyas Gopal (103 batting off 153b, 13x4, 1x6) helped Karnataka gain full control.
The hosts were 474/5 at the close of play. Skipper Mayank Agarwal (83 off 109b, 12x4, 1x6) and his deputy R Samarth (82 off 108b, 11x4) led from the front, while Devdutt Padikkal (69 off 121b, 8x4, 1x6) and Nikin Jose (62 off 100b, 12x4) contributed with half-centuries.
On Day 2, Karnataka scored351 runs for the loss of 5 wickets.
The day belonged to Shreyas, who made the most of the dropped catch by Akhil Singh Rawat on 68. Uttarakhand dropped three catches and one stumping opportunity on the day to compound their problems.
There was an element of determination in Shreyas's batting as he had missed a ton by five runs in Alur against Rajasthan in a league fixture last month. The all-rounder was in no mood to let go of this chance and reached the three-figure mark with a four off the last ball of the day.
Brief scores: Uttarakhand 116 all out vs Karnataka 474 for five in 116 overs (S Gopal 103 not out, R Samarth 82, M Agarwal 83, D Padikkal 69; M Mishra 3/31)
