Former top-flight referee Bobby Madden has questioned the scheduling of officials after Matthew MacDermid went from the centre of a major refereeing controversy to VAR duty for Rangers less than 24 hours later.

MacDermid was the referee in charge when Partick Thistle beat Ayr United 1-0 on a Friday night, awarding the visitors the decisive penalty after Seb Drozd went down in the box with Liam Dick nearby.
