Rangers to face Hamburg at Ibrox as Michael Beale preparations for new season begin to take shape

Rangers will face Hamburg at Ibrox in a summer friendly.

The German outfit will make the trip to Glasgow on Saturday, July 22 as both clubs step up preparations for the season ahead. The two clubs have a long-standing relationship and official partnership and the Light Blues say this will be celebrated while providing Michael Beale's new look outfit a big test on the park as they gear up to challenge Celtic for the title and attempt to reach the Champions League group stage.

A club statement read: "Rangers Football Club are delighted to announce a summer friendly against Hamburger SV at Ibrox Stadium on Saturday, July 22 with a 3pm kick-off.

"The match will celebrate the long-standing relationship and official partnership between both clubs and their supporters, as well as providing a fantastic test on the pitch for Michael Beale’s squad ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

"With natural links through the cities of Hamburg and Glasgow, the relationship dates back to 1970, with the first friendly between the sides played in that year.

"The weekend of the match will see a range of fan-based activities on and around the matchday, as both clubs join to celebrate the friendship and bond between both sets of supporters."

A summer of change is underway at Ibrox with the Rangers faithful bidding farewell to Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent, Filip Helander, Allan McGregor and Scott Arfield following the four goal share of the spoils with Hearts last night.

First signing of the window Kieran Dowell was in attendance after putting pen to paper on a three-year pre-contract deal to join Beale's revamp in Glasgow.
