Jon McLaughlin 5
Given the nod after a nightmare against Celtic. But was one of few players with pass marks in Amsterdam. Made a couple of decent stops and had little to no chance with goals.
Borna Barisic 6
Refused to give in despite a dire first-half and was cruelly denied a sensational consolation by a VAR offside check. Severely limited offensively but did just about enough in defending his goal.
James Sands 3
Caught under the ball as Alvarez was allowed a free header for opener, and deflection wrongfooted McLaughlin for Ajax to net second. A really difficult night against a superb Ajax attack.
Connor Goldson 5
Not one of his best showings for Rangers, but wasn’t among worst performers. Was a bit shaky at times and just couldn’t get a handle on the threats of Kudus, Bergwijn, Berghuis or Tadic.
James Tavernier 4
An uncharacteristically poor showing on a European night. Couldn’t cope with electric opposition and allowed Kudus space to turn and drive before arrowing in third. Little attacking output.
John Lundstram 5
Nowhere near as influential as he’d have liked in midfield. Often bypassed in the middle and later forced to drop in as a central defender in a makeshift back-five after the damage was done.
Glen Kamara 4
Struggled to get a foothold in the midfield battle. Often a pivotal figure for Rangers but was another passenger as Ajax strolled to a comfortable victory on the European stage.
Malik Tillman 4
Been a hero for Rangers since his arrival in the summer, but was anonymous in Amsterdam. One fleeting run in the first-half fizzled out much like his performance as Rangers crumbled. Subbed at half-time.
Ryan Kent 4
Couldn’t get the better of the impressive Rensch all night. Reduced to another defender for large spells as Ajax dominated proceedings. Came close to late strike but was guilty of being offside as Barisic effort ruled out.
Scott Wright 3
Wasn’t his night. Unable to get on the ball at all in a nightmare 45 minutes for Rangers. Didn’t utilise pace or really threaten Ajax at all before being subbed at the break.
Antonio Colak 5
A thankless night of effort for the striker. Cut an isolated figure in the Rangers attack and was starved of any real quality going forward. Put himself about whenever he could.
Leon King (for Tavernier, 45) 4
A tough night, but stood up to his task fairly well.
Rabbi Matondo (for Wright, 45) 3
Didn’t get much of a look in.
Ryan Jack (for Tillman, 45) 2
Dreadful slack backpass gifted Ajax a fourth.
Steven Davis (for Kamara, 77) 3
On for final stages.
