Rangers outcast joins Aris Thessaloniki as previous loan deal ripped up

Rangers have confirmed the loan exit of a player who cost them £1.2million a little more than a year ago.

Jose Cifuentes' time in Scotland hasn't gone to plan since he arrived from Los Angeles FC last summer.

The 25-year-old midfielder has made 20 appearances for Rangers since Michael Beale brought him to Ibrox claiming he could take the club "to the next level", and he spent the second part of last season out on loan with Brazilian side, Cruzeiro, playing 12 times.

But during both those spells Cifuentes has failed to impress and now he's set to play football for Aris Thessaloniki this time around.

He will initially link up as a loanee, however the Greek Super League outfit do have an option to buy included in the deal.

A Rangers statement confirmed the news on Tuesday afternoon: "Rangers today confirms Jose Cifuentes has joined Aris Thessaloniki on a season-long loan, with an option to buy. This follows the ending of his loan spell with Cruzeiro. Everyone at Rangers wishes Jose Cifuentes well in Greece."

Speaking to Aris' official website, the Ecuador international stated: "I am happy that I am now a member of the Aris family. I know a lot about my new team.

"I am looking forward to playing in front of the Aris fans, who create a warm atmosphere at the games and support the team with passion.

"I will try with all my strength to help Aris to have a successful season, to reach high, and with its completion, to have achieved our goals."

Acknowledging that the players previous loan agreement had been ripped up, Cruzeiro took to social media and said: "Cruzeiro informs that it has reached an agreement with Rangers FC and José Cifuentes to end the midfielder's contract. We thank the athlete for the services he has provided to Cruzeiro and wish him success in his future career."
