Rangers are stepping up their pursuit of Serbian midfielder Vanja Dragojevic as Derek McInnes looks to further strengthen his options in the centre of the park.

Talks for the 20-year-old are understood to be progressing well, with optimism growing that an agreement could soon be reached for the highly rated Partizan Belgrade captain, who has already earned two senior caps for Serbia.

According to the Rangers Review, negotiations have advanced positively over the past 24 hours, with the Ibrox club closing in on a deal for a player regarded as one of the more promising young midfielders currently available in Europe.

Dragojevic, an energetic and technically accomplished operator, has attracted interest from a number of clubs across the continent. Rangers, however, believe he possesses both the mentality and ability to make an immediate impact in Glasgow.

Midfield has already been an area of focus this summer. Cammy Devlin became the club’s sixth signing of the window at the weekend, joining Dan Neil, who arrived from Sunderland earlier in June and has already taken on the No.6 role.

With Nico Raskin, Connor Barron, and Mohamed Diomande all entering the final two years of their contracts, and Tochi Chukwuani having joined in January, Rangers are continuing to reshape their midfield unit ahead of the new campaign.

While other targets, including Tromsø’s Jens Hjerto-Dahl, have been considered, Dragojevic is currently the priority as McInnes looks to add further depth and quality.

Despite speculation of travel to Norway, it is understood Rangers officials remain in Spain at their pre-season training base, where they are scheduled to play another closed-door friendly this evening before returning to Scotland.
