Former Rangers defender Connor Goldson has provided an update on his health after undergoing a 13-hour open heart surgery procedure.

The 33-year-old had a second open heart surgery last Tuesday. But he has already returned home, leaving the hospital after just five days.

Goldson is sharing his health journey on Instagram and revealed his surgery was successful but caused "a lot more bumps, bruises, cuts and holes" during a 13-hour surgery than back in 2017.

The centre-back was in intensive care for one night and then spent a night in a high dependency unit before being moved to a ward.

Remarkably, Goldson was able to walk along the corridor with a physio after night one in intensive care. He was discharged five days after the surgery.

Goldson has now had his plasters removed as he recovers at home with the support of his "superhero" wife as he admitted, "it's crazy hot the simplest of things are now so difficult".

On Instagram, Goldson posted: "One week tomorrow.

"I said I would keep you updated this time so here goes. Operation was successful which is the main thing. But ended up being 13 hour operation and a lot more bumps, bruises, cuts and holes than in 2017.

"I spent one night in intensive care, another night in high dependency unit before moving back to the ward.

"After night one on ICU I walked for the first time up and down the corridor with a physio. I don’t know how but it made me proud that I was able to move.

"After only 5 days, the surgeon and the nurses allowed me to go home. It’s crazy how the simplest of things are now so difficult but day by day I’m feeling better and getting more dependant.

"Today my wife removed my plasters, same scar just a little bit longer and a lot fresher.

"Thank you for all the messages over the past week it’s meant a lot. Thank you to my wife. Wow she’s a superhero what she has been through this last week and never left my side.

"Update you in a week or 2 ✌️❤️"
