Rangers winger Findlay Curtis is set to return from the Scotland squad in order to feature for the under-21 side.
The Ibrox ace had been part of Sebastien Pocognoli's first squad for the upcoming Nations League matches but will now fly home to join Tony Docherty's youth side.
Hearts forward James Wilson will also head back to Scotland to play for the under-21 side.
It's understood the duo will still be considered as part of Pocognoli's squad and have the ability to rejoin the side throughout the break.
However, it's thought it would be preferred for the players to gain game time in the under-21 side where possible rather than the potential of being unused with the Men's A side.
Under-21 boss Tony Docherty was in Spain with the Scotland squad this week, with collaboration expected to increase throughout the Hampden set-up.
Scotland take on Slovenia in the Nations League on Saturday in Pocognoli's first match in charge of the national team.
The under-21 side face Azerbaijan on Wednesday, September 30 before an away trip against Bulgaria.
