Rangers fans swoon together over legend's transfer masterplan that starts with Billy Gilmour – Hotline

Barry Ferguson reckons Rangers should throw the kitchen sink at Brighton to land Billy Gilmour on loan.

And the Ibrox faithful calling the Hotline reckon that might just be enough to dish up a title triumph next season. Steven Campbell, Motherwell, agreed with the Record Sport columnist as he said: “Barry is bang on, Rangers should be pushing the boat out to bring wee Billy back up the road. He’s a class act and is just what we need to overtake Celtic.”

Craig Watson called in to say: “I really do hope we make a move for Gilmour. The kid is far too good to be sitting on the bench at Brighton, hopefully the lure of European football and regular action with the team he grew up supporting will be attractive enough for him to return.”

But Peter McBryan said: “I don’t believe it! First Fergie wants Rangers to offer Steve Davis a new contract, then he urges Rangers to sign Gilmour. Do you think Rangers have money to waste?”

Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton, took a pop at Ferguson’s old Ibrox team-mate Craig Moore for suggesting Gers should also make a move for Scotland hero Scott McTominay, saying: “Craig Moore was just being selfish when saying it would make sense for McTominay on loan.

“Playing in the best league in Europe is only going to improve his game, not facing opposition like Livingston and Ross County every week.”

The Tartan Army are still on cloud nine after Tuesday’s stunning Scotland win over Spain.

But Henry Moffat, Stirling, couldn’t resist a dig at Gers as he said: “Steve Clarke’s boys have given Scottish football a great boost and taken the attention away from Liverpool’s seven goal Battle of Britain massacre at Ibrox.

“The zero points and worst Champions League performance in history was a humiliation that was hanging over our game. Tuesday’s win is a massive shot in the arm and puts our game back in a positive light.”

Robert McEwan, Mount Vernon, took a pop at Friday’s caller Alan Fleet, who fears the national team will be “ripped to shreds” by Norway in June, saying: “There’s no pleasing some people.

“After Scotland’s fantastic win, you have Alan Fleet putting a dampener on our result.”

But Chris Dyer said: “That Spain win means the Tartan Army will be travelling to Oslo more in expectation than hope rather than the other way around for a change!”

Back to club matters and Celtic fan James Brown, Glasgow, said: “I see that your Hotliner Chris Lowe is STILL obsessed with all things Celtic.

“Neil Lennon and Scott Brown simply celebrated goals and victories against his mob. Are they not allowed to celebrate?

“As for Leigh Griffiths, he wasn’t goading any Rangers fans with a Celtic scarf, they had all left the stadium before the end!”

Barriemore Barlow, Dunbartonshire, is worried by possibilities of further departures from Parkhead, emailing in: “The only flaw with Ange Postecoglu’s plan is that there will continue to be exits every window so unless the quality of recruitment remains consistent Celtic will become a stepping stone.

“Liel Abada is already eyeing bigger things and Brighton are sniffing around Reo Hatate. If this keeps up the squad will be in constant flux and in danger of losing its identity.”

Gary Stevenson, Newtonhill, called to discuss Barry Robson’s appointment as Aberdeen boss until the end of the season.

He said: “Classic move by Aberdeen chairman Dave Cormack!

“He claims that Barry Robson was clearly the best man for the Aberdeen manager’s position ahead of six other candidates. So confident that he has given him 10 games in charge!”
