A FRESH warning has been issued to football fans by the Scottish Government over the use of pyrotechnics.
A meeting is due to take place today between government officials, the SPFL and Police Scotland. The Football Safety Officers' Association will host it, according to the Daily Mail.
The summit follows recent incidents at games in Scotland which have resulted in warnings from clubs and authorities to fans over the use of fireworks and flares within stadiums.
A display put on by Rangers fans at Dens Park earlier this month ramped up the growing concerns.
The full away stand was illuminated red as several flares were set off within the ground. The game was stopped for 19 minutes to allow for the smoke to clear after the fire alarms kicked in as a result of the pyro. The players were forced off the pitch, with the game having already been delayed due to traffic issues.
The match, which finished 5-0 to Philippe Clement's team, didn't finish until 10.40pm.
There have been other instances where the use of pyro by fans has been condemned by clubs and football authorities.
Motherwell fans put on a display at McDiarmid Park, and Aberdeen fans were seen with flares at Hampden for their recent Viaplay Cup semi-final.
A statement from the Scottish Government spokesperson in the report reads: "No one should be put at risk of harm from the misuse of pyrotechnics. It is a criminal offence to take, or attempt to take, pyrotechnics, including fireworks, into football stadiums and the Fireworks and Pyrotechnic Articles (Scotland) Act 2022 provided Police Scotland with further measures to deter and prevent their use from June 2023.
"We welcome the stance that football authorities, clubs, many fans and fan groups, as well as front-line services, have taken to pyrotechnic misuse, speaking out against it and working together on joint messaging and awareness-raising, and we continue to work with partners on what more can be done."
Meanwhile, Brentford are eyeing a possible transfer swoop of Rangers youngster Ross McCausland, according to reports.
The Northern Ireland international has risen to stardom in recent weeks with appearances for the Ibrox first-team under Philippe Clement and he was rewarded for his form when he received his first full international call-up.
McCausland is out of contract at Rangers in the summer but the club have tabled terms on a new deal in a bid to ensure he remains in Glasgow.
