Rangers chairman & CEO update as recruitment priority clarified

John Gilligan has confirmed Rangers will first appoint a new chairman before the club recruits a chief executive officer.

The interim chairman - who stepped in following John Bennett's departure for health reasons - revealed the efforts to appoint a chairman is "progessing quickly".

However, Gilligan warned the recruitment of a new chief executive - a position left void since James Bisgrove's exit to the Middle East - is "more complex".

At a recent Fan Advisory Board meeting, Gilligan answered questions on the vacant chairman and CEO positions as he clarified the priority for the board.

A new chairman - based in Scotland - will first been appointed to act between he Executive Board and RIFC board and overseeing the company.

A chief executive - the most important appointment in the club in the past decade according to board member Stuart Langan - will then be brought in at the conclusion of work alongside a recruitment agency.

A section of the Minutes from the meeting read: "SL [Stuart Langan] asked if the appointments would be sequenced, with the Chairman appointed first.

"JG [John Gilligan] confirmed that the Chairman would be appointed first, a professional non-executive position acting as a bridge between the Executive Board and the RIFC Board, overseeing the company.

"The Chairman will be based in Scotland. He noted that while the Chairman appointment was progressing quickly, the CEO role was more complex, though recruitment efforts were moving swiftly with the help of a recruitment agency.

"SL commented that the appointment of the CEO is arguably the most important appointment the club has faced in the past decade."
