Rangers beat Hibs as young Northern Ireland player enjoys late cameo

Sunday turned into a special day for young Northern Ireland footballer Ross McCausland who enjoyed a cameo appearance for Rangers.

The 20-year-old was introduced as a late substitute by manager Michael Beale as the Light Blues claimed a 3-1 victory at Easter Road.

They earned their win with goals from James Tavernier, Ianis Hagi and Todd Cantwell, the latter of which McCausland replaced in the 88th minute.

The Northern Ireland youth international continues to impress at Rangers, having mainly featured for the club's Under 18 side in the Lowland League where he has scored eight goals in 31 appearances this season.

McCausland has already made his senior debut at Rangers, coming on as a substitute for Amad Diallo against Hearts in May 2022 under former boss Gio van Bronckhorst.

He was also on the bench for last month's 5-2 win over St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership.

The 20-year-old, who has represented Northern Ireland at U21, U19 and U17 level, joined the Rangers academy from Linfield in the summer of 2019.

He agreed a contract extension with the Old Firm giants in September, a deal that commits him to the club until 2024.

At the time, head of academy Craig Mulholland said: “We believe that Ross still has lots of potential to realise and there is so much more to come from him.

“The modern game requires ‘1v1’ dominant players and this is a real strength that Ross has that we will look to enhance.

“He is a massive Rangers fan who is well supported by a strong family and we are all excited to see how he matures and develops as a player and person in the coming years.”
