Rangers B cup clash provides selection dilemma for Hamilton Accies ahead of Ayr United test

Hamilton Accies boss John Rankin admits their hectic schedule will provide a selection dilemma for tonight's SPFL Trust Trophy clash away to Rangers B.

Following Saturday's 3-1 defeat at Raith Rovers that left them bottom of the Championship, Accies travel to Dumbarton Stadium tonight aiming to secure their place in the fourth round of the cup and a home clash with league rivals Inverness Caledonian Thistle next month.

But they are quickly back in Championship action on Friday night with a live BBC Scotland clash at home to Ayr United.

And Rankin admits with the games coming thick and fast, it could pose some selection problems.

He explained: "We've got such a short turnaround to get everybody fit for Friday again so we need to see who is robust enough to be able to play Tuesday-Friday and be able to change the surface from grass to astro.

"Some are carrying knocks and injuries and the medical team are working on them right now.

"There will be changes to the team and it is a case of getting through this period to get to Friday against Ayr, which is obviously a very important game.

"Every game is important but we need to start picking up points in the league.

"We need to react to Saturday and bounce back quickly."

Accies will be boosted by the return of defender Dan O'Reilly following a two-game suspension but Rankin wouldn't elaborate on which of his players may be struggling for tonight.

He added: "I wouldn't say anyone is overly struggling but it is managing the difference in surfaces, whether it be a knee problem or a muscle issue.

"That's something we need to look at because the timing of the games Saturday-Tuesday-Friday makes that problematic."
