Steve Clarke says he’s not loosing sleep over facing Erling Haaland but the Hotline’s Tartan Army contingent aren’t quite so confident.
The Scotland boss is refusing to worry too much given the fact he’s got a list of Premier League players who know what to expect from the Manchester City goal machine. But Gavin MacLeod, Renfrew, said: “It’s nice hearing Clarke saying Scotland don’t fear Haaland. Scotland have made immense improvement under the Ayrshire Ancelotti but I have to confess the overconfidence is a worry.
“Clarke has built recent results on solid performances from guys like Declan Gallagher and Ryan Porteous against, and we have to be frank here, a sub-par Spain side. Haaland is inevitable. His teammates will not create what he gets at Man City, but his Terminator-esque demeanour means only one thing – he’ll be back!” James McSorley, Bothwell, added: “Was it Alfie Inge that Clarke was taking about when he said he doesn't fear Haaland?
“Under Clarke Scotland have always been well prepared so I hope his comment was just some mind games otherwise we could be on the end of a drubbing.”
Celtic fans are worrying too as rumours linking Ange Postecoglou to the Spurs gig continue. But Jimmy Murray, Edinburgh, took a pop at the Rangers support who appear ready to drive the Parkhead boss south: “I think the saddest part of Scottish football is one team wants another teams manager to leave to give them a chance of winning the league.”
Bill Park, Bathgate, said: “There is a lot of negative comments concerning Tottenham Hotspur on the Hotline. Their new ground has been voted the best in Britain and there are similarities to other clubs who were sleeping giants such as Chelsea, Manchester City, and Newcastle. A big challenge, but on his managerial record, Ange obviously relishes one.”
Alan Flett hit back at yesterday’s caller Martin McGarrigle: “I’m delusional? I couldn’t care less about your eight Trebles! When you hump Inverness on Saturday, you will no doubt celebrate as if you’ve beaten Real Madrid. Crack on!
“The point I’m trying to make is, Ange Postecoglou has never beaten anyone that he wasn’t expected to beat and he has taken Celtic as far as he can.”
Michael Emonds, Northampton, was also on to take issue with a fellow Hotliner, saying: “George Wilson has a problem with the truth, he keeps on with the lie that Celtic have done nothing in Europe for 20 years and wants evidence. Well here it is - and the best way to remember the dates is as follows.
"Rangers went into Liquidation on October 31, 2012, one week later on November 7, 2012, Celtic beat the mighty Barcelona 2-1 at Celtic Park in the Champions League. One month later Celtic had qualified from the Champions League group in second place.
"Gordon Strachan was Celtic manager from 2005 till 2009 and qualified from the groups twice. The evidence is there in the record books, so to say 20 years of failure is a big fat bluenose lie.”
Hugh McKirdy added: "Once again Aberdeen are accused of lying down to Celtic by some Rangers fans. But since Rangers came back to the top flight, Celtic have secured five trebles. They never one any in Rangers’ absence. So what are they doing about it bar blaming others?”
