Rams select OLB Byron Young with 77th overall pick

The Rams bailed out of the 69th overall pick by trading down to No. 73 in a deal with the Texans, and then they moved back again – this time dropping 16 spots. Finally, they were back on the clock at No. 77 overall and ended up picking

At that spot, the Rams selected edge rusher Byron Young out of Tennessee. He fills a major need for Los Angeles, particularly after the departure of Leonard Floyd, bringing a ton of juice to the pass rush with 4.43 speed at 250 pounds.

The Rams desperately needed a complementary piece next to Aaron Donald and they’re getting exactly that with Young in the third round.

Young only played two seasons at Tennessee but he was very productive in both seasons. He had 5.5 sacks in 2021 and seven last season, totaling 23.5 tackles for a loss in those two years.

His athleticism is what really stands out. He ran a 4.43 in the 40-yard dash, had a 38-inch vertical and an 11-foot broad jump, showing off his explosiveness as a pass rusher.

He’ll fit in right away as a potential starter at outside linebacker, pushing for snaps early on as a rookie. With Donald eating up double teams, Young will get a ton of one-on-one opportunities on the edge.
