Before making a single move this offseason, the Los Angeles Rams were projected to have $46 million in cap space – a stark contrast to the limited room they had last year when they were forced to purge their roster of high-cost players. They’ve been busy already in the first week of free agency, not only re-signing many of their own players, but also bringing in outside free agents such as Jonah Jackson and Colby Parkinson.
While we don’t have exact details of every contract signed by Rams players this offseason, we have a good idea of how much cap space Los Angeles has after its initial wave of moves.
According to Over The Cap, the Rams have $12 million in cap room. That number accounts for the new contracts for Jackson, Robinson and Alaric Jackson’s tender, but it doesn’t include Michael Hoecht’s tender or the contracts of Parkinson or Darious Williams.
Hoecht’s tender is expected to be worth $2.985 million, so that brings the Rams down to about $9 million in cap space. Parkinson and Williams both have average salaries of $7.5 million and while their cap hits will likely be smaller in Year 1, the Rams are probably right up against the cap now.
If they want to make any additional moves, they do have theability to restructure the contract of Matthew Stafford to free up about $20 million. They could do the same with Cooper Kupp to save $12.5 million, or with Rob Havenstein to save $7.7 million.
