Rams-Ravens advanced stats comparison: Baltimore has edge in every area

There is very little about Sunday’s Rams-Ravens game that favors Los Angeles. The Ravens have been the better team all season and is coming off a bye to face the 6-6 Rams, who have now won three in a row.

That’s not to say the Rams are a bad team, but the Ravens are a tough opponent for them with their ability to run the ball, rush the passer and create explosive plays with their leader, Lamar Jackson. The numbers suggest Baltimore has an edge in most areas heading into this Week 14 showdown, too.

Sumer Sports put together a table showing where the Rams and Ravens each rank in 11 different categories, from EPA/play to explosive rate allowed. There isn’t a single category where the Rams have the advantage, though Los Angeles still ranks in the top half in six different areas.

The Ravens, on the other hand, are in the top 10 in eight different categories, including a league-best 0.06 EPA/rush and -0.15 EPA/play allowed.

The biggest advantage the Ravens have is in explosive play rate. They create explosive plays 11% of the time, which ranks sixth in the NFL, while the Rams’ explosive play rate is only 8.6%, 24th in the league.

The Ravens also allow explosive plays just 7.7% of the time (fourth-best) and the Rams rank 17th in explosive play rate allowed (9.5%).
