Ram Is Building Its First SUV. Here's Everything We Know

Now that Stellantis has presented a new roadmap, Ram has one major goal: to outsell Jeep. In order to do that, Ram will need more than just pickup trucks and work vans. That’s why Ram is launching its own SUV called the Ramcharger, and it could be the key to its future success.

Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis hasn’t been quiet about the upcoming vehicle, dropping plenty of hints as to what we should expect. It will feature a V8-centric powertrain lineup, helping set it apart from the Jeep Grand Wagoneer it will likely be based on.

We know there will be a high-performance SRT variant, too, as Ram truly embraces the V8 again and aims to serve a different type of customer than the Jeep. How Ram will do that remains to be seen.

Ram is now one of Stellantis’ core brands, and its lineup is already growing. Until the official reveal, this is everything we know about the upcoming Ram Ramcharger.

What Will Ram Call It?

Ram has already confirmed it will call its new SUV the Ramcharger. The brand was going to use the name for its extended-range electric 1500, but Ram has aggressively shifted away from its electrification efforts and thought the name would work better on a more exciting product.

Ramcharger isn’t a new name. Dodge used it on an SUV from the 1970s until the early 2000s. It left the American market in the early 90s after the second generation, but a third-generation model was produced in Mexico at the turn of the century.

What Platform Will It Ride On?

The new Ram Ramcharger is expected to share its architecture with the Jeep Grand Wagoneer. It is a modified version of the Ram 1500 platform designed for the SUV, such as swapping the truck’s solid rear axle for an independent rear suspension.

Ram will likely make even more modifications to the architecture to ensure the Ramcharger feels unique and distinct. This could include specific suspension tuning, exclusive hardware, or other tweaks.

What Will It Look Like?

With the Ramcharger sharing a platform with the Jeep Grand Wagoneer, the overall size will be nearly identical. What will differentiate the two, beyond powertrains, is design, and the Ramcharger will look distinctly like a Ram when it debuts.

Our rendering depicts the SUV with a familiar breadbox shape accented by Ram’s latest styling cues. The Ramcharger features Ram’s corporate front end, with a bold grille and slim headlights. We expect Ram to offer wildly different front-end treatments, depending on the trim.

What Will Power It?

We expect Ram to continue its V8 revival and only offer the Ramcharger with V8 engines, with the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 possibly serving as the base option. It makes 395 horsepower.

The 6.4-liter V8 will likely serve as the upgraded engine across the core trims, which produces 470 hp. This V8-centric powertrain lineup will help differentiate it from the Grand Wagoneer it's based on, which features the automaker’s new inline-six Hurricane engines.

The Jeep is also getting an extended-range EV option, too, which we doubt the Ram will adopt.

Will there be an SRT Version?

Yes, Ram’s CEO has already confirmed that the Ramcharger will have a high-performance SRT variant. That means the SUV will likely pack the brand’s 777-horsepower, 6.2-liter supercharged Hellcat engine that powers the 2027 Ram 1500 TRX and Ram 1500 Rumble Bee.

When Will It Debut?

Ram has not said when it will reveal the new Ramcharger, but considering the brand’s product cadence and its ambitious sales plan, we expect it will be soon. Back in April 2025, Kuniskis said that Ram will have 25 product announcements over the next 18 months.

In that time, Ram resurrected the Hemi V8 in the 1500, rejoined NASCAR, relaunched the TRX, and recently launched the Rumble Bee SRT street truck. A high-powered SUV feels imminent.

We expect it could debut within the next six months and go on sale as soon as the 2028 model year.

How Much Will It Cost?

Ram has provided no pricing details for the new Ramcharger just yet. Since it's based on the Grand Wagoneer, we have a good idea of what it could cost. We expect it will have a starting price of around $65,000, which would match competitors like the Chevrolet Tahoe and Ford Expedition.

The top-trim and SRT variants will likely cost over $100,000. The 2026 Grand Wagoneer has a $66,790 starting price, which includes the $$2,795 destination charge. The top trim is the Summit Reserve that has a $103,105 MSRP, and that comes with Stellantis’ 3.0-liter Hurricane engine.
