Ralf Rangnick hints at Man United debuts for Alvaro Fernandez and Alejandro Garnacho vs Chelsea

Ralf Rangnick has hinted that some of the Manchester United youngsters on the bench against Chelsea could get some game time at Old Trafford.

The United squad has been decimated with injuries and absences, with the number of first team players out up to eight with Jesse Lingard missing for personal reasons.

The only change from the United side that lost to Arsenal on Saturday is Marcus Rashford coming in for Jadon Sancho, who has tonsilitis, but there are four teenagers in total on the bench, in Alvaro Fernandez, Hannibal Mejbri, Shola Shoretire and Alejandro Garnacho.

Shoretire and Hannibal have both featured for the first team previously, but Fernandez and Garnacho will be making their debuts if they come on against Thomas Tuchel's side.

“They’ve been training with us in the last couple of weeks, it’s a great experience for them to be part of the group, it’s possible some of them might get their first cap tonight as well, apart from Hannibal who played at Liverpool," Rangnick told MUTV.

Rashford is back in the team after a hugely disappointing season but Rangnick is hoping he can reproduce his training performances into a match, something he has struggled with this season.

“As I’ve said often he has been very good in training and I very much hope for him and his team he can transform that onto the pitch tonight," he said.

United are aiming to avoid a third successive defeat in the Premier League tonight, having lost to Liverpool and Arsenal recently, but they face a strong Chelsea side.

“They’re playing with their best possible starting XI, it will be a tough game so we have to play as a team and fight together, be as compact as we can be, the best possible balance defensively and offensively," added Rangnick.
