New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday initiated a debate on the Constitution in the Lok Sabha with a focus on its historical significance and its role in shaping the Nation's governance and global standing, reports Dynamite News correspondent.
Rajnath Singh said that an atmosphere is being created as if the Constitution is the gift of a party. The Constitution has made the people citizens.
Defence Minister mentioned Shyama Prasad Mukherjee and Veer Savarkar, when the opposition MPs started creating a ruckus in the House.

1. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, initiating the discussion said that the Constitution is not just a legal document, but a reflection of the aspirations of the people.
2. He said that our Constitution paves the way for development by touching all aspects of social, economic, political and cultural life.
3. The role of many people in the framing of the Constitution has been deliberately denied. Rajnath Singh said that an attempt has been made by a particular party to 'hijack' the work of constitution making.
4. Rajnath Singh said that the Constitution is a document of rights and duties of the citizens, which makes them citizens of a democratic country.

5. Defence Minister said that the dream that the freedom fighters and all other countrymen had seen was fulfilled on 26 November 1949 when the Constitution was adopted by the Constituent Assembly and came into effect on January 26, 1950. .
From that day, the rule of kings and queens and the rule of the British system ended in India. The rule of the people began and India became a Republic.
